EXERCISE CLUB

Our bodies are a precious gift and as we age it is common for our physical health to deteriorate. It is important that we exercise to prevent physical decline and frailty. The phrase, "use it or lose it" can have significant meaning as we age. Elderday Center provides opportunities for daily exercise to prevent frailty, physical decline and increase autonomy. Exercise can help decrease fall risks, improve balance and dexterity and promote independence.

Opportunities to exercise at Elderday Center include:

  • Daily seated exercise to increase flexibility
  • Strength training to promote independence (think pushing yourself out of a chair with arms)
  • Gross motor skill games to increase balance and reduce fall risks
  • Walking to assist with blood flow, flexibility, anxiety and reduce symptoms associated with dementia often called “Sun-downing”
